This Blessed Old Book

  The words of this song make my heart sing. My Bible is indeed a blessed old book. It’s a history book, an instruction manual, and a beacon of light in a dark world. I have the very words of God. He magnified His word above all His name (Psalm 138 : 2). Yet, even knowing all that, there are times when I don’t immediately think to turn to it. I take advice from friends, family, colleagues, or fellow believers. It is well with my soul; is it well with yours?

Life can be hard. If you know the story of Horatio Spafford’s life, then you know just how hard life can get for some. His young son died in the ‘Great’ Chicago fire in 1871. His four daughters all perished in a shipwreck with his wife, Anna, being “saved alone.” Yet after all that, he penned this song as he sailed over the location where his daughters had lost their lives.
