Today is Musical Wednesday on Faith in Writing, but I lost my song

Sammy I’m in mourning. Some people don’t understand the relationship a person has with their pets. They cannot understand the deep sorrow felt at their loss. Yesterday, our 17 year old lab/pitt mix somehow wandered out of the house. When we realized he was out, we were unable to find him. During that time, a neighbor from a few streets away happened by him and called local veterinarians to see if he might be a patient. We spent our first night in this house on Friday, so he didn’t see a local vet yet, he saw one in Sweet Valley, PA and another veterinarian made house calls. Anyway, not being able to track us down, despite our contacting the SPCA and his calling the SPCA after that initial contact, he took Sammy to his own vet. The vet suggested that Sammy be put down since he was in poor health.

It’s hard to understand how someone could decide to put down another family’s pet, but… I choose to believe it was all in God’s plan. He knew that Joe and I were struggling with the idea that we might have to make that call. He took that decision from us. It hurts. We miss him. We didn’t get to say goodbye.Sammy

I don’t feel like singing today. I don’t feel like playing piano. I want to curl up in a ball and cry. Yet, I have a powerful source of strength to rely on. I can tap in to the most amazing wellspring of life and power. He’s waiting for me. Always there when I need Him.

So, today my songs are not mine, but His. My Rock of Ages will cleft for me. I know that I have a friend in Jesus, He’s everything to me. And through it all, I will praise Him in the storm and recognize His amazing grace, which is sufficient for me.

I don’t have a song for you today, but He does. And He has a song to share with me.

Matthew 11:28-30 28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
